Poetry

I went to the The Poetry Cafe in covent garden last Friday. I cant believe I have never been before it is a great venue and just around the corner from work!
There were some great performers but two were really stand out for me so I thought I would share them with you.

First up Kat Francois

And

Beyonder

Support these people, out of all the art forms it must be a hard grind to make some cash If you like them check them out and try and see them live. It was a great experience that opened up my mind to poetry!

The man and the legend Yohji Yamamoto

A few weekends ago I went to the V&A to see the Yohji Yamamoto exhibition with Miss Jazz.
W e had the perfect day laid out Fashion Food Burlesque and cocktails. Pretty much all of the best things in my world! I even managed to squeeze in a macaroon.

Anyway enough about my belly......the show at the V&A was beautiful you could even touch things! I know I couldn't believe it either me and Miss Jazz were in our element. peeking at the seams and Miss Jazz even going so far as to lie on the floor to take a peek up one of the skirts. I looked away at this point and pretended I did not know her!
For those of you that wont get to see it I thought I would share some images with you.

A beautiful image.

What really struck me about Yohji was the simplicity but ultimate beauty of his clothes. The clean lines and use of some of the most simple fabrics.

I am hoping it might be catching, so i have decided to look at his picture and give him a wink everyday until some of his magic rubs off!

HOT DOG HOT DOG HOT DOG

I have another mini obsession Sausage Dogs, so I decided to embrace it and make some sausage dog fabric.
I have got as far as the design now I'm just looking for somewhere to get it printed.

So I'm just looking for somewhere to get it printed on some lovely see through fabric. I found a UK based company Citrus Rain and i am just waiting for my fabric samples to arrive. Going to compare them to the old faithful spoonflower and let you know the results

I want to make some cute shirts like these sweet little HOH number

Beautiful Ladies in Floral 50's

I love love love making my own patterns but I have to be honest I don't always have the time!
My good friends had their wedding recently and I was thinking about what to wear.......

A long awaited tidy up of my studio unveiled a half cut pattern I  had forgotten all about, from one of the best vintage pattern companies I have come across colette patterns
The cut of their patterns is the best they are so comfortable and so flattering. So when my work mate needed an outfit for a blitz party I was more than happy to share the love!

And I am so glad I did because she looks SO BEAUTIFUL!

Its inspired me to cut some 50's patterns of my own. It might even be time to pick out some pretty florals or candy stripes! Not my usual thing...... I think the brief taste summer might have effected me.......

Brixton

So to some of you Brixton might seem like the kind of place you NEVER want to go amongst most it does not have the kindest reputation. Rather than try to change your mind im going to revel in that fact, as quite franckly thats good news for me. It means that less of you get into my secret fabric heaven........

I went down fabric heaven last Saterday  to pic out some fabric with a friend/collueauge/client of mine who wants me to make a bespoke skirt for her. It was nice to show her around and take her to see some of my fabric shop friends.

I have not let myself step foot in any of those shops for so long as it always ends up being expensive. Well Saturday was no different......my friend picked out her fabric really quickly a little bit of umming and ahring while I pulled out 6 yard length after 6yard length saying I only want a little look I'm not hear to buy. I have fabric up to the ceiling in my studio I defiantly don't need anymore.

Hard to walk away but I did it.......but not for long..........I suggested we head over to another little African print shop in Brixton Village again greeted with 'hey long time no see'. All i wanted to do was have a quick peek but then one thing lead to another and i had no choice but to pick up these corkers.

I am an addict I swear there is nothing I can do about it its out of my control! even if there was a Fabric Addicts Anonymous I don't think I would want to go because in all honesty I LOVE it

Making bits and bobs

I have been trying to finish off old projects and make a couple of little dresses for some of my friends kids so i thought i would post the pics here. When i am making things for myself i like to take a little break form designing and use some of the great patterns that are out there......

So first up this little number, it is now completely finished but these pics were taken while i was still int he process of putting it together

This pattern is form the beautiful online vintage pattern shop http://www.colettepatterns.com/ If your new to the game or fancy giving sewing a go there are lots to chose form. The patterns are so cleverly designed and the instructions so easy to follow they make a perfect place to start.
I will post some pics of me in the dress at my country wedding at the end of this month.

My second little project was a dress for my Streatham neighbors (well they were but they just moved). They have the most beautiful daughter and i could not resist making her a little Hawaiian print number. Look how lovely she looks :)

Again i can take all the credit for this one. The pattern was loaded up onto a great sight for sewers called burdastyle.com and you can find it by searching for popover dress.

That's all for now but i have been super busy so more creations to come
